Adventure? Who needs it...

The older I get, the more I enjoy family time.

When you're young it's all about the adventure.
I don't seem to need all the adventure anymore.
Or maybe adventure has just come to mean something completely different.

Just stick me in a room surrounded by family and dude, I'm there.
And being with family at Christmas?

Witnessing the bond between grandparents and grandchildren?

Watching Todd's brother prove his, ahem, geekiness intelligence?

Dying laughing over inappropriate inside jokes with my sister-in-law?
(Who by the way is one of my most favorite people in this universe...just sayin'.)

Hearing my youngest babble and laugh with his grandma?

That's all the adventure I need.

Brother-in-law's family left Monday for New York.

Grandparents trickled out today.

And now it's back to the real world of packing and bringing in the New Year and looking forward to the magic of Christmas again next year.

Lachlen and Owen

Here are the two youngest, striped, Christmas-y, Fischer cuties:

I'm sure their relationship won't always be this peaceful.

And hopefully Lachlen won't always try to feed off of Owen....

But I do hope Owen always looks this happy when his younger cousin is around.

The End.

The Christmas of New Pets

Christmas 2010 has come and gone.

It was a great one.
We had a quiet morning at home full of yummy biscuits, coffee, and three excited children in their new Christmas jammies. (Minus Owen who had a small urine related incident.)

This was the Christmas of Pets. Pillow Pets. Emma Grace and Isaac have been begging for pillow pets since.....well I can't remember when, but let's just say for an annoyingly LONG amount of time. They have the commercial memorized to the point that on Christmas morning when I wondered aloud if you could wash them in the machine, from across the room EG says "oh yes, Mom. They're machine washable but you don't want to put them in the dryer."

Oh My.

So here are some pics below of their moments of joy when opening their machine washable pillow pets. We debated long and hard about whether or not to get Owen one since he has never expressed interest in them, but we felt like we should. You know - because he's getting bigger and we didn't want him to feel left out one day and have to go to years of counseling because he didn't receive a beloved pillow pet. (I'm sure we've given and will continue to give him many other reasons for counseling, but I didn't want pillow pet deprivation (ppd) to be one of them.)

So, without further ado, here they are excited to be opening the huge boxes that have been waiting under the tree.
(Look at Owen's face....so very, very happy.)

The diva with her zebra.
Sheer delight.

Isaac's first glimpse of his frog.
So excited!

And last but not least.......Owen with his machine washable monkey that he never asked for.
Complete and utter disappointment.
I hate to speak for him here, but I think his face pretty much says it all:
"Seriously? This is what you two morons have been going on and on about....It's a freaking pillow, and to be honest, I'm a little bit scared of it. I mean for crying out loud, this monkey is almost as big as I am."

I'm not sure what he thought was in the box, but I think we can all agree that
this. was. not. it.

The monkey is in his crib with him, but he is always curled up as far away as possible from it. Poor little monkey.
Poor little Owen.
Oh well, we'll try again next year.

Stay tuned for pics from our family time and our snow time.
Yup, we also got tons of snow starting Christmas night.
Machine Washable Pillow Pets and a white Christmas?
The only thing that could have made it better would be if the pets were stuffed with diamonds or something. (Which at $20 a pillow, I kind of thought they should have been.....)

New favorite word.

You know what my favorite word of the day is today?
Contingent.

As in, I just looked at the house we're buying on the internet and right beside the listing it says: "contingent".

As in, if everything goes according to plan, (knock on wood) in less than one month, we will be living about 2 minutes from Todd's office, and our children will be attending a school we are much more comfortable with.

Yup, contingent.
c-o-n-t-i-n-g-e-n-t.

And now that you all can sleep better knowing my favorite word of the day.....I'm going to go to bed as well. Of course, my going to bed is contingent on everybody else staying asleep and my ability to remove the rather large pile of laundry from said bed.

Contingent.
Man, I just love that word.

Moving Man

While the older kids are away,
the moving man will play....

He doesn't seem to grasp the concept that we have packed things in boxes for a reason.
He loves to unpack the boxes we haven't finished and taped yet.
I'm sure this will be super helpful when we're unpacking in our new house.
But for now, it's just plain annoying.
(And a little bit humorous.)

Snow Day

After the day we had yesterday, I was delighted to wake up to a minimal amount of snow on the ground and canceled schools. We all needed it. Everybody hung out in their jammies all day long.

We all played some Nintendo. (Yes, you read that right....nintendo......as in old school nintendo. You know the one where you have to blow on the cartridges and wiggle them just right while simultaneously pushing the buttons and hoping the screen will stop blinking blue. Then while you're playing, you are also silently praying that the machine will stay on until you finish before you have to start the blasted process all over again.) That's just how we roll at the Fischer house.

Here are two of my boys competing at Mario Brothers. The original one.

I love their identical expressions.

Owen got tired of the video games and decided to spend some time hanging out in the toy box

and torturing his best friend.
Seriously - the kid loves Kaia.
Not sure if the feeling is mutual, but she tolerates a lot. Probably because he is the number one source of her table food scraps.

And after hot soup and a movie, everyone is in bed.

Ahhhhhhh. Love snow days.

Birthday Gal

I

can't

believe

she's

six!

The diva turned 6 today. We celebrated on Saturday. She wanted to paint pottery with her cousin and friend and then we met up with our boys, the grandparents, aunt and uncle, etc at Todd's office for pizza, cake, dancing, games, and some more crafting.

She had a great time. She is such a funny girl. She's got a lot of sweetness in her combined with some vinegar and sass. I can never predict what she's going to say or do next. Just when I think she's all diva and girl, I'll catch her out in the back yard tromping through the creek and shooting play guns with all the boys. I love that about her.

And I still can't believe she's 6.

They've Figured Me Out

Uh-Oh.
Evidently my kids know me better than I thought.

Overheard:

Isaac: Emma Grace, why is Mommy letting us watch a movie right now?
Emma Grace: Probably because she's tired of us bugging her while she tries to make the cake.

Apparently my "Hey, since Emma Grace got out of school early and it's so cold outside today, would you guys like to curl up on the couch and watch a movie together?" line didn't work because she heard what I was really thinking......which was........"you guys are cute and all but this job would go so much faster if you weren't in here spilling all the ingredients and asking me every 1.3 seconds to lick the beaters."

Dang.
I guess now I'll have to wait and get my Mother of the Year Award another day.

Oh My!

Eat your heart out, ladies....

I didn't even know he was nominated.
